Nashville, TN, is already rebuilding after tornadoes devastated parts of Nashville and central Tennessee early Tuesday. Tornadoes reached winds of about 160 mph and stretched across 50 miles in four counties. As our community comes together to recover and rebuild, supporting Nashville is more important now than ever. The area around Nashville is all too familiar with tornadoes arriving this time of year, with deadly storms occurring in 1933, 1998 and 2008. Deaths on Tuesday occurred in at least four counties, including Davidson (where Nashville is located), Putnam, Benton and Wilson, with the majority of devastation occurring in Putnam County. Most of the damage in Nashville occurred in East Nashville’s Five Points district, North Nashville, and Germantown. Five Points is an iconic location and the destruction included commercial areas, historic buildings, and homes. In some cases entire buildings are gone. Clean up and pick up has started, but the most difficult part may be salvaging the historic buildings in Five Points and Germantown. East Nashville however is determined to bounce back and rebuild stronger than ever. At least 48 structures collapsed around Nashville, however, downtown Nashville wasn’t heavily impacted. Downtown Nashville remains a vibrant tourist destination, and the city will depend on tourist as businesses reopen and rebuild in the coming months. There are several ways to help Nashville and the victims of the storm, such as donating to charitable organizations, giving blood, and volunteering to clean up. Most of all, don’t cancel your plans to visit. Help us rebuild and enjoy your next trip to Nashville.
