Gaylord Opryland is one of those hotels where checking in can unexpectedly become the main activity. That changes how a weekend here works. You do not need a long Nashville checklist to fill two days.

The experience also changes after sunset. The glass-roofed spaces feel noticeably different once the garden lighting takes over, so walking through in the afternoon and returning later doesn't feel like a repeat.

Take the Boat That Runs Through the Hotel

Yes, a riverboat runs inside.

The Delta Riverboat follows a quarter-mile indoor river through the Delta Atrium's 4.5-acre garden on an all-electric flatboat. Guides talk about the resort and its plant and fish life during the trip, which lasts about 15 minutes.

It is a particularly good first-day activity: short enough to fit around check-in, and it shows you part of the property from an angle you cannot get from the walkways.

Pick Dinner by Mood, Not Proximity to Your Room

With this many restaurants, leaving the choice until everyone is hungry rarely works well. Three restaurants cover the main moods:

• Old Hickory Steakhouse: choose this for the more formal dinner of the weekend. Marriott lists it as a dinner restaurant and specifies business-casual attire.
• Ravello: go here for Italian food and house-made pasta in the resort's garden setting.
• Foundry Fieldhouse: the casual sports-bar option, with 14 televisions, four bars, and a two-story LED screen. The 707-seat indoor/outdoor space serves lunch and dinner.

For something lighter, Delta Marketplace covers grab-and-go food, and Cascades American Cafe serves breakfast through dinner. Either way, the resort operates cashless, according to its dining information.

Save One Evening for the Grand Ole Opry

Of the major Nashville attractions you could add, the Grand Ole Opry causes the least disruption to a resort-focused weekend, because the Opry House is in the same Opryland district.

• Location: 600 Opry Mills Drive.
• Calendar: The Opry lists regular performances, Opry Country Classics, tours, and special programming. The lineup changes by date, which is part of the point, so check the official calendar for your specific weekend rather than relying on a generic list of performers.
• Backstage tours: these also operate on selected dates.

• take a daytime backstage tour and spend the evening back at the resort

Opry Mills Works Better as an Optional Gap-Filler

The mall lists regular hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, though holiday dates can differ.

Use it when:

• you have an hour or two ahead of an evening Opry performance or dinner reservation
• someone wants shopping the resort cannot cover

If You Have One Extra Block of Time, Choose the General Jackson

Like the Opry, the General Jackson Showboat leaves from the Opryland area.

It runs midday lunch and evening dinner cruises on the Cumberland River, pairing a meal with live musical entertainment and views toward the Nashville skyline. It also prevents a common mistake: booking the Delta Riverboat and assuming you have already "done the boat."

You have not. The Delta trip never leaves the atrium; General Jackson takes you onto the Cumberland and takes up much more of the day.

Pick one if your weekend is short. Choose both only if the boat experience genuinely interests you.

Coming for the Holidays? Treat It as a Different Weekend

The resort a summer guest sees is not the one a December guest sees. Each year, A Country Christmas takes over the property, centered on ICE!, a walk-through of hand-carved ice sculptures kept well below freezing, with parkas lent to visitors.

For the 2026 holiday season, the programming runs November 6 through January 2, 2027, with ICE! featuring "Home Alone." Holiday offerings change by year and are ticketed separately.

Putting Two Nights Together
