Nashville Airport Terminals: Before You Board at BNA

BNA will surprise you. Not with size: Nashville International Airport is compact, single-terminal, and most first-time travelers get their bearings faster than they expected. What surprises people is how much it reflects the city it belongs to. Hot chicken at the gate. Live music near the bar. An outpost of the most famous bar on Broadway, right there in Concourse C, as if the city extended straight through security.

The other thing that surprises people: the construction. BNA is midway through a $3 billion expansion called New Horizon, and what you walk into in 2026 looks different from any guide written before 2023. Concourse A is not just temporarily closed; it is being reconstructed as part of New Horizon, and the surrounding roadways have been reconfigured in the process. This is what the airport actually looks like right now.

The Layout: One Terminal, Four Active Concourses

BNA operates from a single terminal at 1 Terminal Dr., Nashville, TN 37214, with three levels: departures on Level 3, arrivals and baggage claim on Level 1, and ground transportation on the lower level.

One central security checkpoint sits in the Grand Lobby on Level 3. Once you are through, all four open concourses connect airside. No shuttles, no re-clearing security, no inter-terminal confusion. That simplicity is BNA's best feature.

Open in 2026:

• Concourse B: Delta Air Lines and United Airlines. Eleven gates (B1, B3–B11). Children's play area at the far end with wall games and floor activities. Delta Sky Club adjacent to Gate B1.
• Concourse C: The largest and busiest, with 18 gates across the main concourse and satellite. American Airlines and Southwest Airlines operate here. The Admirals Club sits up the staircase near gate C15. The C Satellite Concourse (gates C4–C11 and beyond) is farther away; if your gate is out there, give yourself extra time.
• Concourse D: Southwest Airlines' primary home at BNA, plus Alaska Airlines, Spirit, Frontier, and select international departures. Concourse D was renovated and reopened in July 2025, so it is the newest-feeling space in the terminal. The outdoor observation deck is one of BNA's more unusual features and a good reason to walk over if you have time before boarding.
• T Gates (BNA Marketplace): United Airlines overflow and select carriers. Located straight ahead as you exit the security checkpoint. One café, a convenience shop, and a flower shop sit pre-security for early arrivals or those meeting passengers.
• Concourse A is closed: shut since September 2025 and actively being reconstructed. It will not reopen until July 11, 2028, when it returns as BNA's largest concourse with 16 new gates.

Three Lounges Worth Finding

Delta Sky Club (Concourse B, near Gate B1): Fully renovated in 2023. Access through Delta membership, premium cabin ticket, or select credit cards. The renovation significantly expanded the space.

American Airlines Admirals Club (Concourse C, near Gate C15): Quiet workspace, food and drinks. Good option for early morning flights when the rest of the concourse is still quiet.

USO Lounge (C/D Connector): Free for eligible military members and their families with valid military ID. One of the least-known amenities at BNA, and genuinely useful.

Additional lounges are planned through New Horizon, though no 2026 opening dates have been confirmed.

Food That Actually Reflects Nashville

BNA has over 50 food and beverage options across the terminal. Most are airside. Only one café (Green Beans Coffee Co.) operates pre-security.

A few worth specifically finding:

• Prince's Hot Chicken: Served by the original Nashville brand, not a concession imitation. If you have not had Nashville hot chicken yet, starting here is not a bad call.
• Tootsie's Orchid Lounge: The BNA iteration of the Broadway bar that launched more country music careers than any label. Live music, cold beer, and Southern food, all past security.
• Ole Red: Blake Shelton's Nashville outpost inside the terminal. Full bar, live music, the kind of spot that makes a layover feel less like a layover.
• Puckett's: Long-running Tennessee institution. Solid breakfast and lunch, consistent, never a bad choice before a morning flight.
• 8th & Roast: Local Nashville coffee roaster with proper espresso. The BNA equivalent of the shops you find on Hillsboro Village or 12South.

Practical Notes

• Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal. Connect to BNA_Free_Wi-Fi: no password, no login page.
• Security: The main TSA checkpoint sits in the central lobby area on Level 3. During busy travel periods, up to 24 screening lanes can be in operation. TSA PreCheck enrollment is available on the north side at ground level. Arrive two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights.
• When it gets busy: CMA Fest in June, major Bridgestone Arena shows, NFL weekends when the Titans are home: these create noticeable spikes at BNA. Friday and Saturday mornings in summer are the hardest times to clear security quickly.
• Construction outside: Donelson Pike is being relocated through 2028. Navigation apps occasionally lag behind changes to roadways near the terminal entrance.
• Hotel: The Hilton BNA Nashville Airport Terminal connects directly to the terminal building. No shuttle, no weather exposure: useful for early departures or late arrivals.
• Nursing rooms: Near gates B1, D4, and C6 (Satellite Concourse).

Getting to and from BNA

BNA sits 8 miles southeast of downtown Nashville via I-40 East (Exit 216A). The WeGo Route 18 bus runs between BNA and downtown on a fixed timetable.

Ground transportation pickup areas were reorganized as part of BNA Vision Phase 1. If you last flew through before 2023, the curbside layout has changed. Planning in advance pays off, particularly on weekend arrivals from May through October, when demand in Nashville runs consistently high, and the reorganized ground transportation lanes are still catching people off guard.

The Short Version

One terminal. Concourses B, C, D, and T Gates. Concourse A closed until 2028. Single security checkpoint. All concourses connected post-security. The construction is real but contained.

BNA is one of the easier major airports in the Southeast to navigate once you understand how the recent expansion has reshaped things.
