CMA Awards: Country Music's Biggest Night Has a Very Long Afternoon
The 60th CMA Awards take place at Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, with the ceremony starting at 7 p.m. But anyone attending should plan the afternoon in advance. There's lunch to fit in, time to get ready at the hotel, and possibly a stop on Broadway before the show. With all attendees expected to be seated by 6:45 p.m., even an early dinner might be cutting it close.
The 6:45 p.m. Seating Deadline Sets the Day
According to the official CMA Awards ticket details, doors open at 5:30 p.m., and all ticket holders must be seated by 6:45 p.m. Anyone who misses that deadline must wait on the arena concourse until the first commercial break, expected around 7:15 p.m. Only then can they enter the seating area.
That gives attendees 75 minutes to get through security, find their seats, and perhaps take a few photos along the way. The CMA also encourages black-tie or formal attire, so getting ready may take longer than usual. It's worth accounting for all of that before mapping out the afternoon.
Lunch Is the Meal That Actually Fits
A sit-down lunch around noon or 1 p.m. leaves plenty of time to eat before the ceremony. Dinner is trickier. A 5:30 p.m. reservation leaves little time before the seating deadline, including the walk to the arena and security screening. A substantial lunch is probably a better bet than hoping to squeeze in dinner later.
For a party with different tastes, Assembly Food Hall at Fifth + Broadway has several eateries under one roof. Bridgestone Arena sits directly across Broadway, so you don't have to venture far from the venue.
If you'd prefer a more traditional restaurant experience, The Twelve Thirty Club is another nearby option. However, its Supper Club opens at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays, leaving little time for a leisurely dinner before the awards. A multi-course meal might be better saved for after the ceremony, provided the kitchen is still open.
Lower Broadway Works Best Before the Crowd Thickens
Lower Broadway's honky-tonks have live music playing well before sunset, making the afternoon a good time to explore. The walk from Fifth Avenue toward the riverfront is short enough to stop for a few songs after lunch. That prevents the stop from taking over the day.
If you're already dressed for the awards, a calmer drink near the arena might sound more appealing than a crowded dance floor. The red carpet activities also take place ahead of the broadcast.
By late afternoon, the area around Bridgestone Arena can get particularly busy. Between media crews, artists, and ticket holders heading inside, a spontaneous walk around downtown might take longer than expected. Early afternoon is a better time to enjoy Broadway before the crowds gather.
Back to the Hotel for the Wardrobe Change
If your hotel is in SoBro, The Gulch, or downtown, you can spend the afternoon exploring before returning to change for the ceremony. If your hotel is farther out, it makes more sense to get ready before heading into the city. You'll avoid an extra trip back and have more of the afternoon to spend around Broadway.
While you're getting ready, it's worth checking your tickets too. The CMA uses mobile entry through Ticketmaster and doesn't accept screenshots, so save them to your phone's wallet before heading out.
A charged phone will also come in handy at Bridgestone Arena, which accepts only card and mobile payments. The venue's bag policy prohibits backpacks, and smaller bags may require additional screening. Anything you won't need during the show is best left in your room.
Street Closures and Parking Around the Arena
Major events at Bridgestone Arena can bring road closures, so check for updates before heading downtown. For the 2023 and 2025 CMA Awards, sections of Rep. John Lewis Way and Sixth Avenue between Broadway and Demonbreun Street were closed. The 2026 arrangements may differ, so look for the latest notices closer to November 18.
If you're driving, the arena's parking information lists nearby options, including the Fifth + Broadway Garage and the Pinnacle garage at Symphony Place. Even if someone else is making the trip to Bridgestone Arena, those street restrictions are worth checking. Parking a few blocks farther away could also mean a quicker exit afterward.
Cars cannot stop on closed blocks near the arena. Choose a spot a few blocks away and share it with your party and the transportation company in advance. Anyone continuing the night on Broadway can walk to the next stop and arrange transportation there instead of returning to the arena.
After the Final Award
The official CMA Awards After Party at The Pinnacle is reserved for CMA members and eligible guests. A regular arena ticket won't get you in. Some hospitality packages include post-show events, but access depends on the package.
For everyone else, Lower Broadway has plenty of places to keep the night going, with honky-tonks playing live music late into the night. Whether you're heading out for another drink or calling it a night, decide where to go next before leaving the arena.
Putting the CMA Awards Day Together
A good CMA Wednesday comes down to a few decisions made ahead of time. Those include where to have lunch, when to return to the hotel, and what to do after the ceremony. Once those are settled, there's more room to enjoy the afternoon.
For larger parties, arranging transportation for all attendees is another detail worth sorting out early, especially if people have booked different hotels. CMA week begins November 15, bringing additional events and visitors downtown in the days leading up to the awards.
By the time the ceremony begins, lunch should be a distant memory, and the phone should still have some battery. The whole party should be settled in their seats.
